Toenail Surgery

Ingrown or malformed toenails can be anything from annoying to painful and infectious. Because they're impossible to ignore and can't be handled without professional aid, toenail problems are among the most common reasons people seek the advice of a podiatrist.

We utilise a range of chiropody treatments to alleviate your toenail problems, but sometimes toenail removal surgery with local anaesthetic is the only option. This operation provides long-term relief, and our foot specialists oversee the procedure in a sterile medical setting.

Why Might You Require Toenail Surgery?

An ingrowing toenail is a condition in which the side of your nail cuts into the surrounding skin, necessitating minor toenail surgery. The skin on the big toe can become inflamed and infected, causing excruciating agony.

Ingrown toenails can be caused by a variety of factors, including inadequate nail cutting technique, tight-fitting shoes, or injury. If you have naturally curved edges on your nails, it's sometimes just a matter of genetics.

Fungal nail infections and thicker toenails that strain on your nail bed, causing painful corns to grow under the nail, are two more conditions that necessitate toenail surgery.

Toenail Surgery Procedure

Many people believe that toenail surgery is a difficult process that necessitates a hospital visit. This, however, is not always the case.

A partial nail avulsion, in which one or both sides of the damaged nail are removed, and a whole nail avulsion, in which the entire nail is removed, are the two types of surgery we conduct. During the process, a local anaesthetic will be used to numb the area and block the nerve endings, so you won't feel any discomfort. We employ a chemical to kill the cells after the nail has been removed, preventing regrowth.

We'll dress your nail so you can go home, and we'll schedule follow-up appointments to make sure it's healing properly.
