Verruca Treatment
Causes of Verrucae

The human papillomavirus (HPV) causes plantar warts, which is a highly contagious virus disseminated through direct human contact. The virus thrives in damp, moist environments such as locker rooms, pools, and shared showers. The virus can be contracted by just walking on the same floor as someone who is infected, which is why it is so common among children.

Verruca Removal

While verrucae may go away on their own, they can soon become inconvenient, spreading to other parts of your feet, growing larger, and becoming painful. If you seek professional care from a podiatrist, verrucae will clean up considerably faster. If your verruca is painful, has spread and multiplied, has changed in appearance, or is hindering your movement, we recommend that you come see us.

PROFESSIONAL VERRUCA TREATMENT

We use three main types of verruca treatment.
FREEZING (CRYOTHERAPY):

Cryotherapy is a relatively safe procedure that involves freezing the skin around the verruca using an extremely cold gas. The goal is to give your skin cells a short, intense shock that kills the verruca tissue. Although the verruca can require numerous treatments before it is entirely removed, this is a relatively simple process that causes minimal disturbance to our patients.

STRONG ACID-BASED TREATMENTS:

To kill the diseased skin, acid-based therapies are employed, which are significantly harsher than over-the-counter medications. Again, before the verruca is completely eradicated, this therapy frequently necessitates multiple sessions. Although some people may experience some soreness in the treated verruca as the acid begins to work, the treatment is mostly painless.

VERRUCA NEEDLING:

Verruca needling is a small surgical operation done under local anaesthesia. It entails puncturing the verruca with a fine, sterile needle several times. This exposes the virus to the fatty tissue beneath the skin, which is rich in immunological regulators, allowing the body's immune system to recognize and eliminate it. The benefit of Verruca needling is that it usually only requires one treatment, though we will see you for follow-up visits.
